Looking at post-Covid prospects and how they might unfold for logistics and world shipping
Abundance marked the beginning of the Irish potato famine that killed a million and sent millions more overseas as refugees in the 1840s. The potato blight putrefied some of the potatoes, and rushed the rest off to market the moment they were ready to sell.
So the signal of a famine to come may well be misdisagnosed as a good fortune given the abundant big profits, runaway stock markets and unbridled government spending.
Adding to this ill-founded sense of wellbeing are fanatical fixations on things that do not matter, from global warming, decarbonization, racial and gender justice, insisting that boys can declare themselves to be girls (and vice versa) and a complete over reaction to a flu bug.

Thoughts of a 53-foot revolution, when the big US box takes center stage in the container world
Perhaps an idea whose time has come at last is the expansion of the deployment of the 53-foot container as something more than the shipping anomaly it has become over the years.
We must first acknowledge that it is a box that appears better suited to the North American road and rail infrastructure and more relevantly holds more cargo per lift than the European-scale FEU.
A big advocate of such a major shift to the 53-footer is the founder of Blue Alpha Capital John McCown, who worked with container shipping pioneer Malcom McLean for 20 years.

The West must devise cyber technology that is both serviceable and simple or allow China to dominate
The increasingly hostile policy towards China shared by the fractious right and left of American politics, now being tentatively joined by European sentiment, has strengthened an otherwise weakened and weakening Western world.
An example of where this hostility to can lead, weakens rather than strength is shown in the recent fear of Chinese drone sales in the US in which a single company, Shenzhen-based SZ DJI Technology Co, controls more than 50 per cent of the US domestic market.
The Americans, and undoubtedly the Europeans too, are fearful that these drones are transmitting data they collect to a People's Liberation Army database to be collated into a thoroughgoing map of every square inch of wherever they are sold. This has prompted the same fears that Edward Snowden raised from his admittedly scary National Security Agency domestic surveillance activities.

Is rail freight the saviour of supply chains, or will a truck always get into the picture whatever one does?
Rail freight is frequently touted as the saviour of supply chains, in what has become an unreasoning war against trucks and trucking.
Lately another salvo has been fired in a keynote address at the European Silk Road Summit 2021 in Amsterdam by on no de Jong, an esteemed fellow of the venerable Dutch think tank, Emory’s .
Emory’s is one of the oldest economic research and consulting companies in Europe. Its history dates back to 1929, when a group of businessmen from Rotterdam established the Foundation NEI or the Netherlands Economic Institute.
